Fathers@School Message from Chairperson

Fathers@School is a key initiative and part of a larger vision for the Dads for Life movement to provide opportunities to engage fathers to be involved in their children’s lives. The programme was launched on 1st August 2010 by Minister for Community Development Youth and Sports, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan and White Sands Primary School launched its first Fathers@School activity in September 2010.

With effect from 1 April 2014, Fathers@Schools programmes will be supported under MSF’s FamilyMatters@School. Renamed “FamilyMatters@School for Fathers”, this funding for father-child bonding programmes will replace Fathers@Schools. Programmes planned for FamilyMatters@School are conducted with the following objectives:
- Promote father-child bonding;
- Equip fathers with parenting and marriage skills; and
- Enable fathers to help other fathers become active fathers and contributors to the school.

In April 2016, a group of about 10 fathers from WSPS stepped forward to provide support for the organisation of activities for this programme. Two activities had since been held :

  1. A Day Camp for Father-Child Bonding on 30 May 2016
  2. A talk on “Raising Resilient Kids” on 27 Aug 2016.
It is very encouraging to note that we have had an average attendance of 25 fathers at each of the mentioned events.

Moving forward, in 2017, we hope to organise one event in each term with the key objective of forging closer father-child bonding.

The motto for all our events and upcoming activities will be "Entertaining, Engaging and Effectiveness."

We hope more fathers will be encouraged to be part of this meaningful program of fostering healthy relationships, connecting and being with their children in their growing years.

Thank you.
